Partnerships & Collaborations

SICRI is actively seeking collaboration with institutions, research centers and local island organizations that can advance its mission. In particular we are looking for partners to host, sponsor and facilitate future ISIC and other events, including one day symposia and workshops, and research and co-publishing projects.

International Center for Island Studies, Kagoshima University, Japan
 

The ICIS (formerly the Kagoshima University Research Center for Pacific Islands, KURCPI) is a research institute that aims to promote interdisciplinary studies on islands and island-zones in Oceania and its surrounding regions. SICRI has a historical relationship with ICIS which hosted the first ISIC conference in 2015. The Center publishes the Journal of South Pacific Studies. Since then ICIS has hosted several SICRI members as part of its International Research fellowships program, contributing to advancing research in the Amami Islands in particular. This long collaboration has led to the Amami Islands International Research Initiative (AIIRN) that is co-costed by SICRI and ICIS.

The Jersey International Centre of Advanced Studies

JICAS is a postgraduate research institute that focuses on islands and island communities. In collaboration with the University of Exeter, it offers a Postgraduate Masters Programme in Island Biodiversity and Conservation.  JICAS hosts a consortium of internationally renowned academics, intellectuals and politicians to help raise the intellectual capital of the island of Jersey and elevate the island’s standing within the global academic community.
JICAS' Director, Dr Sean Dettman is serving as a member of SICRI's Advisory Boad. JICAS is also the sponsor of SICRI's website.

 

Research Institute for Islands and Sustainability, University of the Ryukyus

The Research Institute for Islands and Sustainability (RIIS) at the University of the Ryukyus conducts collaborative and multidisciplinary research concerning Okinawa and island regions throughout the world. SICRI is currently collaborating with RIIS in co-editing a volume for the Institute's journal, Okinawan Journal of Island Studies (OJIS), for more information on the call and submissions see here.

Island Innovation
